A sampling of the ways Camp Chameleon is enriching our studies:
We read “I Went Walking” by Sue Williams. The class took a walk to Camp Chameleon and made a list of things they observed there. We came back to class and each student completed a page for a class book with the following sentence “I went walking in Camp Chameleon. I saw a __________”. Students illustrated their page. |
Ms. Russell’s class used Camp Chameleon to enhance their Air and Weather science unit. Students used bubbles, wind vanes, parachutes, and anemometers to explore wind direction and speed. They also measured rainfall with a rain gauge and temperature with thermometers. Air was observed moving different materials around the science center. Each day while sitting on the benches in Camp Chameleon students had the opportunity to record observations and write about their learning in their science notebooks. Being able to do all of this outside certainly made learning more meaningful and engaging!

We worked at Camp Chameleon during Writer’s Workshop to work on adding descriptive details to our writing. The students used their 5 senses to record their findings. |
We used Camp Chameleon as a place to do our “rock sorting”. The students used screens to separate the rocks into groups of pebbles, gravel, and sand. The students observed each type of rock and recorded their observations in their science notebooks. |
