The 2017 Science Expo is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 21 from 5:30-7:00pm in the school’s cafeteria. This is a great chance for students to find a scientific question/topic that interests them and then use an experiment to learn more about it.
The event is open to any Chameleon in grades K-5 who wish to participate. Students propose an experiment, perform it, and then share their results at the Science Expo. The actual event works like a traditional science fair, where students display their results on a trifold board and discuss them with other students and guests. Siblings are welcome to work on a project together rather than doing separate ones. More information is available on the Science Expo webpage.
Click on the button below to register. Please submit this information by the end of the day on Wednesday, February 15th.
Have you heard about the PTA's Tasty Tuesday program? Tasty Tuesday is a great way to encourage healthy eating and introduce kids to fresh fruits and vegetables they may not have tried before. Some of the foods the kids have tasted this year have been grapefruit and cherry tomatoes. This month the kids will be trying pineapple.

Our first ever "All for Books" Coin Challenge was an overwhelming success! Our Chameleons raised $1,701 in spare change and dollar bills. We are humbled by everyone's generosity, especially those of our students who were excited about getting involved in giving. This money will be used to ensure that no student at Carpenter will leave the book fair empty handed because they can't afford a book. Every child deserves the gift of reading. All the remaining funds will be used to fulfill wish lists of our teachers to help fill their classroom libraries. And it doesn't end there! As a part of the program, Scholastic will match this donation toward a local non-profit that promotes childhood literacy.
Our annual Book Fair will be held Nov. 28th - Dec. 9th. We have lots of fun things happening this year:
Week of Nov. 14th: "All for Books" Coin Challenge: Each class will be collecting loose change to go toward our Book Fairy Fund, which allows us to make sure that every child that can't afford to shop at the fair gets to pick out a book to take home. Gather that loose change and send it in all week: Penny Monday; Nickel Tuesday; Dime Wednesday; Quarter Thursday; Dollar Friday. The 2 classes that collect the most will win an ice cream party and their teacher will win a $25 Scholastic Certificate. In addition, Scholastic will match the total money we raise and donate the same amount to a local non-profit!
